Introduction to the Trans Identity

The Transgender community is a very large community and within it are many different identities. Many of which people are unaware of. This section will give a rundown of some of these identities and hopefully educate you on some you may not have known.

The Transgender community is large there are many different identities that are included under the umbrella term of transgender. Allies of the transgender community must be informed of the different identities to prevent unintentional microaggressions and discrimination.

The Different Identies

Transgender

Someone who identifies as transgender is someone who identifies with a gender that they were not assigned at birth.

Non-Binary

Someone who identifies as Non-Binary is someone who identifies outside of the binary of gender. It is important to note that not all Non-Binary people identify as Transgender, this is a choice that the individual will make for themselves.

Gender Fluid

Someone who identifies as Gender Fluid is someone whose gender is fluid and often changing. Their gender expression can fluctuate and they often will use different pronouns as their gender fluctuates, but it is always important to ask their pronouns before assuming. It is important to note that not all Gender Fluid people identify as Transgender, this is a choice that the individual will make for themselves.

Agender

Agender is an umbrella term for those who identify with no gender and/or identify their gender as neutral on the gender spectrum. Similar to Non-Binary, it is important to note that not all Agender people identify as Transgender, this is a choice that the individual will make for themselves.

Bigender

Someone who identifies as Bigender is someone who dentifies with 2 distinct genders. It is important to note that not all Bigender indivduals will identify as Transgender, this is a choice that they will make for themselves.

Gender Queer

Someone who identifies as Gender Queer is simeone who does not express or identify with any of the gender binary. It is important to note that not all Gender Queer indivduals are Transgender or Non-Binary, this is a choice that the individual will make for themselves.

Demi-Gender

Someone who identifies as Demi-Gender is someone who partially identifies with any gender. Demi-Gender individuals may identify as Non-Binary or Trans but this is the individual's choice.

Trigender

Someone who identifies as Trigender is someone who identifies with three or more genders. It is important to note that not all Trigender indivduals will identify as Transgender, this is a choice that they will make for themselves.
